Graduate School

About half of Caltech students go on to graduate school immediately after receiving their BS degree. (Actually, students graduating with degrees in physics, mathematics, biology, and chemistry pursue advanced degrees at a rate closer to 60 percent.)

Graduate Student Tutorial Of the 249 students who received BS degrees in 2006, 186 responded to our survey about their post-graduation plans:

  • 103 (55%) enrolled in graduate school
  • 40 (22%) accepted employment
  • 16 (9%) are seeking employment
  • 9 (5%) undecided
  • 12 (6%) pursuing other plans
  • The majority attending graduate school in fall 2006 pursued traditional degrees in aerospace engineering, biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, geology, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and physics.
