3/2 Applicants

Problem Sets

Admissions Process
Application information is available on our website and through each of the liberal arts college partners. Deadline for submission of 3/2 applications and support materials is April 1.

Admission to the 3/2 Program is not guaranteed and is determined by the Caltech Upperclass Admissions Committee. Students applying should have a record of superior academic achievement at their home institutions, and strong letters of recommendation from their 3/2 liaison and from a mathematics, science, or engineering faculty member. They must have completed, at their home college, a minimum of one year of physics, one year of mathematics (including multivariable calculus and differential equations), and one year of chemistry. Two years of mathematics and physics are recommended, however.

Participating Colleges

Students from the following institutions are eligible to apply to the 3/2 program:

Areas of Study
It is expected that the colleges from which the 3/2 students come will determine which of the options (majors) offered by Caltech are appropriate for their students. Some colleges may choose to limit the option choice to an engineering major to fit the traditional 3/2 dual-degree program. Others may limit the option choice to fields such as Geology or Planetary Science, which are often not available at liberal arts colleges.
