Jarrid James Whitney, Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid

Jarrid comes to Caltech after holding several positions in admissions and financial aid at Cornell University (his alma mater), Dartmouth College, Stanford University, Notre Dame de Namur University, and most recently Santa Clara University. He is originally from a small town in rural, upstate New York where he was the first in his family to attend a four-year institution. It was at Cornell where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree and developed a passion for access and equity for underserved populations, which led him to his work in college admissions. He later went on to Harvard University and earned a Master's in Education with a focus on Higher Education.
Karly graduated from DePauw University with a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Spanish and worked in admissions at DePauw for a year. She then joined Trinity University's Office of Admissions as the lead for diversity recruitment and community outreach for five years. During that time she earned a Master of Education in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas in San Antonio. Karly is responsible for diversity recruitment at Caltech.

Erin received her BA in International Relations and Foreign Policy from Boston University. Upon graduating, Erin worked at Simmons College as a Senior Admissions Counselor for three years. After becoming tired of digging her car out of snow, Erin returned to her home state of California. She then went on to work for six years in domestic and international recruitment at Claremont Graduate University, where she is finishing up her part-time M.B.A. in Marketing. Erin is currently responsible for managing marketing and communications, as well as the reading cycle for future Techer applications.
Jann Lacoss, Ph.D., Senior Assistant Director

Jann joined Caltech after several years at the University of Virginia's Teaching Resource Center. She holds a Ph.D in Slavic Folklore from U.Va., an MA in Russian Literature from New York University, and a BA in general studies from Ferrum College. She has taught Russian language, literature and folklore, studies children's folklore, and has crocheted pi to about 30 decimal points. Jann is responsible for the International application cycle, serves as the webmaster for Undergraduate Admissions, assists with publications and runs the student blogs.

Originally from Kansas, Matt graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, and cut his teeth in admissions working 2 1/2 years for Leland Jr. Since joining Caltech in 2011, Matt has been excited to yield the next great class of world-shaping Techers, and he coordinates Prefrosh Weekend to that end. Matt works on publications, campus events, and serves as our office's liaison to the Caltech Athletics department. Mackenzie Brown, Admissions Counselor

Originally from Minnesota, Mackenzie graduated from nearby Occidental College with a degree in Urban and Environmental Policy. Previously she worked at a local solar engineering company and studied renewable energy technology in Iceland. Now she is excited to apply both this technical background and what she learned working with Occidental College’s Admission Office to recruit the next batch of Techers. Mackenzie is responsible for college counselor events and Caltech in a Day.

Johanna grew up in the Los Angeles are where she attended Pasadena City College and transferred to UCLA and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in American Literature and Culture and a minor in Afro-American Studies. Recently, she earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education from the University of Redlands. Johanna is our community liaison, works on campus events, and is responsible for counselor visits.
