Jarrid James Whitney, Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid

Jarrid comes to Caltech after holding several positions in admissions and financial aid at Cornell University (his alma mater), Dartmouth College, Stanford University, Notre Dame de Namur University, and most recently Santa Clara University. He is originally from a small town in rural, upstate New York where he was the first in his family to attend a four-year institution. It was at Cornell where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree and developed a passion for access and equity for underserved populations, which led him to his work in college admissions. He later went on to Harvard University and earned a Master's in Education with a focus on Higher Education.

Jamila graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in communication and a master's degree in communication management. Previously she worked at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism as the assistant director of admissions. Currently she is pursuing her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Jamila is responsible for publications and marketing.

Karly graduated from DePauw University with a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Spanish and worked in admissions at DePauw for a year. She then joined Trinity University's Office of Admissions as the lead for diversity recruitment and community outreach for five years. During that time she earned a Master of Education in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas in San Antonio. Karly is responsible for diversity recruitment at Caltech.

Jann joined Caltech after several years at the University of Virginia's Teaching Resource Center. She holds a Ph.D in Slavic Folklore from U.Va., an MA in Russian Literature from New York University, and a BA in general studies from Ferrum College. She has taught Russian language, literature and folklore, studies children's folklore, and has crocheted pi to about 30 decimal points. Jann assists with the website, publications and runs the student blogs and tour guide program. She is also responsible for the International application cycle.

Owen graduated from Trinity University with a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in Medieval Studies. He spent two years working in Trinity's admissions office as a counselor intern. Owen also worked as an admissions counselor at Pitzer College before joining the Caltech Admissions Office. Owen is responsible for campus visit programs including Caltech Preview, Prefrosh Weekend, and Caltech in a Day.

Originally from Kansas, Matt graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, and cut his teeth in admissions working 2 1/2 years for Leland Jr. He is excited to yield the next great class of world-shaping Techers, and to do anything possible to rekindle a healthy, friendly, and, of course, victorious relationship with that other institute of technology, where his brother attended college. Matt assists with Prefrosh Weekend, publications and just about anything else he can get his hands on.

Originally from Minnesota, Mackenzie graduated from nearby Occidental College with a degree in Urban and Environmental Policy. Previously she worked at a local solar engineering company and studied renewable energy technology in Iceland. Now she is excited to apply both this technical background and what she learned working with Occidental College’s Admission Office to recruit the next batch of Techers. Mackenzie is responsible for college counselor events and Caltech in a Day.
